Heaven for Gourmets and Wine Connoisseurs
|
The
Ahr wines have earned the region the title of "Red Wine
Paradise" and the region's gastronomy has been awarded numerous
Michelin and Gault Millau stars. Even the rustic "Straußwirtschaften",
private bars offering the region's new wines, provide great
delicacies from their kitchens and wine cellars.
With approximately 520 hectares of vineyards, the Ahr is one of
Germany's smallest vinicultural regions. At the same time, it is the
largest single area in Germany to cultivate the grapes for red wine.
Approximately 1,500 hours of sunlight per year and an almost
Mediterranean climate account for the region's exceptional red
wines. In autumn, 80% of the area is covered with red wine
varieties, half of which are "Spätburgunder", followed by
"Portugieser".
The region's
excellent gastronomy combines the local wines and dishes to
perfection. A highlight is the "Gourmet & Wine" series
of events. As part of a cultural programme, it involves the best
chefs and vintners from the region putting together fantastic
combinations and presenting them in an unusual environment. |
