Volcanoes, Water and Vineyards
|
In the Eifel
region there are around 100 hotels, restaurants, farms and cycle
hire businesses providing special services to cyclists. There are
three main routes, that are famous among cyclists.
The Kyll Valley Cycle Route runs the whole length of the Eifel
region. The cycle path winds its way along the banks of the river
Kyll. It leads through the ancient volcanic landscape of the "Vulkaneifel",
scattered orchards and rugged rock formations. Along the route you
have plenty opportunity to visit a number of mills, castles,
palaces, churches, museums and picturesque Eifel villages.
The Maars-Moselle Cycle Route runs along a disused steam railway
track. It runs through dense Eifel forests, passes deep blue maars
and extinct volcanoes on the way. The route ends in the charming
wine-growing region of the Moselle river.
The Volcanic Cycle Route leads through the Ahr Valley, one of the oldest
wine-growing regions in Germany. The cycle path runs along the
impressive vineyard slopes and passes through ancient towns. At the
highest point along the route, the cycle path runs through the hilly
Eifel landscape, verdant meadows and endless forests. Passing places
of Celtic origin and ending in the wine-growing region of the
Moselle. |
