Sparkling Moments... in Koblenz
Escape your routine and enjoy a romantic weekend in the town
where the Rhine and Moselle meet.
Your accommodation is on the 10th floor of the Hotel Mercure, which
is centrally located on the banks of the Rhine and offers wonderful
views of romantic Stolzenfels Castle. Bottle of sparkling riesling
wine in your room.
At 6pm you are picked up at the hotel for a romantic carriage ride
(around 1 hour) through Koblenz's picturesque old quarter. On the
way you will see the Electoral Palace, the romantic alleyways and
squares of the old town and, of course, Koblenz's unique landmark,
Deutsches Eck (German Corner). After returning to the hotel, you are
driven by taxi to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, one of Europe's largest
fortresses, perched on a rock 118 metres above the Rhine. From the
terrace you can enjoy glorious panoramic views of Koblenz, Deutsches
Eck, the Rhine, the Moselle and the hills of the Hunsrück and the
Eifel.
A candlelit dinner awaits at the "Ferrari" fortress
restaurant. Enjoy a four-course gourmet meal and let the delights
from the kitchen and the cellar tantalise your tastebuds. The next
day you're up bright and early for a 9am river cruise on the
"Goethe" historical paddle steamer to Bacharach, passing
numerous castles, stately homes and the legendary Loreley. Bacharach
is a small wine-producing town on the Rhine where you can stroll
round the historical old quarter and relax at a wine tavern. The
boat leaves for Koblenz at 3.15pm. (Arrive back in Koblenz at
6.10pm.) The evening is yours to spend as you please.
On day 3 check out of the hotel after a hearty breakfast. Drive in
your own car to Stolzenfels and visit Stolzenfels Castle, one of the
finest illustrations of German Romantic architecture and interior
design.
Then it's time to say goodbye to the romantic town of Koblenz.
